Lake Murray | Lexington

The Lake Murray area is home to one of Columbia's finest recreational assets. Boating and fishing enthusiasts enjoy Lake Murray, a 50,000 acre lake northwest of Columbia. It is 41 miles long and 14 miles across at its widest point and is best known for striped bass, bluegill and crappie. There are 520 miles of shoreline, which is more shoreline that the entire Atlantice coastline in South Carolina! All this is just 15 miles northwest of Columbia and Lexington sits right on the southern shore.

There are many upscale housing developments around Lake Murray, many of these feature boat slips, launch and dry dock facilities for residents. This side of Lake Murray is home to the communities of Lexington, Gilbert, and Batesburg-Leesville.

Lake Murray | Lexington Neighborhoods


Once just a small, rural, farming town, Lexington has blossomed into a thriving suburbia. Just a fifteen minute drive to Columbia and with access to I-26 and I-20, Lexington has become home to many who work in the capital city. Lakefront residents will also have quick access to all of the great shopping and dining Lexington has to offer. In addition to Lexington’s cool boutiques and local restaurants, residents can also walk or jog along the Lake Murray Dam, fish in the Saluda River, or enjoy one of the many outdoor parks. The Lexington County Museum sits in the heart of Lexington, boasting original Southern Antebellum houses and artifacts from Colonial South Carolina. If you want to mess around and hit a few balls or climb all over a jungle gym, the Gibson Road Soccer Complex has a field or court for just about everything. For over 50 years, the small rural town of Gilbert has hosted the massively popular Peach Festival on the 4th of July, rain or shine. Close to Highway 1 and I-20 and Lake Murray, Gilbert is conveniently located in Lexington County and is served by the award-winning Lexington County School District One. There’s plenty of land for horseback riding, gardening, picking peaches in the summer, and settling down with your family in a quiet country setting that is still just minutes from Columbia and Lexington and has its own array of unique shopping and dining.
