Northeast | Around Town

Situated northeast of downtown Columbia, this part of town is one of the fastest growing areas in Greater Columbia. The soil is sandy and for the most part the terrain is flat with pine trees dominating the forests.

Location

Route 277, an expressway with limited access, connects Northeast Columbia with downtown. Northeast residents also have easy access to I-77 (Charlotte, NC & Charleston, SC), I-20 (Florence, Augusta, GA) and I-26 (Spartanburg/ Greenville). I-77 is often referred to as the Charlotte Corridor. US Route 1, or Two Notch Road, is the major road along which most of Northeast Columbia's commercial and retail enterprises are found. Residential development has grown rapidly and significantly in Columbia over the past 12 years, and nowhere is this more evident than in the Northeast area of town.

Development

There are scores of new housing developments in Northeast Columbia, particularly in the Clemson Road area. These include moderately priced starter home communities, patio home developments, and some of the most exclusive residential areas in Columbia. Many of these new subdivisions offer residents an array of recreational amenities. Surely a family can find a home and community to suit their hobbies, tastes and budget in Northeast Columbia. The Northeast area of Columbia is also appealing to newcomers because so many new people have settled here over the past decade.

Employers

Many large companies including Providence Hospital Northeast, RBMG, Bose Corp, Siemens Diesel Systems Tech, Spirax Sarco Inc. and Blue Cross Blue Shield are located in this area. Many people choose to live here because it is convenient to their work. Fort Jackson is close to Northeast Columbia too, and this area is popular with soldiers and their families.

Communities & Neighborhoods

Northeast Columbia has been the place for residential development over the past 20 years. Here you can find some of the most luxurious homes, built lakeside or along the borders of fabulous golf courses, as well as very family-oriented neighborhoods with swim clubs and tennis courts.

Recreation



Richland county provides recreational facilites for Northeast residents through a network of parks and playgrounds. Richland County Recreation Sesquicentennial State Park, situated in the middle of the Sandhills region, features a beautiful 30-acre lake surrounded by trails and Sesqui, as it's affectionately known, is heavily used for familiy reunions and group campouts.
